Finding Courage: Young Voices for Refugee Week 2026

This exhibition showcases artwork created by school children from Denbighshire and Flintshire as part of a competition organised by Clwyd City of Sanctuary to mark Refugee Week 2026.

This year’s Refugee Week theme, “Courage,” inspired pupils to reflect on what courage means in our lives and in the lives of people seeking sanctuary. The word courage comes from the Latin cor, meaning “heart” — reminding us that courage is not the absence of fear, but the strength to move forward despite it.

For refugees around the world, courage is often a daily necessity. It is the courage to leave behind homes and communities, to face unknown journeys, to learn new languages, to navigate unfamiliar systems, and to build new lives in uncertain circumstances. It is also the courage to hold on to hope, dignity and dreams for the future.

Through their artwork, these young people have explored the many meanings of courage with creativity, empathy and imagination. Their work invites us to consider the experiences of those seeking safety and belonging, while celebrating the resilience, kindness and humanity that connect us all.

We hope this exhibition encourages reflection, conversation and understanding, and reminds us that courage can be found in both extraordinary acts and everyday moments.

Dod o Hyd i Ddewrder: Wythnos Lleisiau Ifanc dros Ffoaduriaid 2026

Mae’r arddangosfa hon yn arddangos gwaith celf a grëwyd gan blant ysgol o Sir Ddinbych a Sir y Fflint fel rhan o gystadleuaeth a drefnwyd gan Clwyd City of Sanctuary i nodi Wythnos y Ffoaduriaid 2026.

Ysbrydolodd thema Wythnos y Ffoaduriaid eleni, ‘Dewrder’, y disgyblion i fyfyrio ar yr hyn y mae dewrder yn ei olygu yn ein bywydau ac ym mywydau pobl sy’n chwilio am loches. Daw’r gair Saesneg ‘courage’ o’r Lladin ‘cor’, sy’n golygu ‘calon’ – gan ein hatgoffa nad absenoldeb ofn yw dewrder, ond y cryfder i symud ymlaen er gwaethaf hynny.

I ffoaduriaid ledled y byd, mae dewrder yn aml yn rhywbeth sydd ei angen bob dydd. Dyma’r dewrder i adael cartrefi a chymunedau ar ôl, i wynebu teithiau i’r anhysbys, i ddysgu ieithoedd newydd, i lywio systemau anghyfarwydd, ac i greu bywydau newydd mewn amgylchiadau ansicr. Mae dewrder hefyd yn golygu dal gafael mewn gobaith, urddas a breuddwydion am y dyfodol.

Drwy eu gwaith celf, mae’r bobl ifanc hyn wedi archwilio amrywiol ystyron dewrder â chreadigrwydd, empathi a dychymyg. Mae eu gwaith yn ein gwahodd i ystyried profiadau’r rhai sy’n chwilio am ddiogelwch ac ymdeimlad o berthyn, wrth ddathlu’r gwydnwch, y caredigrwydd a’r ddynoliaeth sy’n ein cysylltu ni i gyd.

Gobeithiwn y bydd yr arddangosfa hon yn gwneud i chi fyfyrio, siarad a deall, gan ein hatgoffa y gellir dod o hyd i ddewrder mewn gweithredoedd eithriadol yn ogystal ag eiliadau bob dydd.
